If you’re anything like me, the idea of crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and golden sunsets makes your heart skip a beat. Isla Holbox, Mexico
A car-free island with powdery sand and bioluminescent waters? Yes, please! Isla Holbox is Mexico’s best-kept secret, where you can swim with whale sharks and sip fresh coconut water in peace. I remember the moment I stepped off the ferry and onto the sandy streets of Isla Holbox—no cars, just colorful bikes and golf carts weaving through the island.
Best time to visit: May to September (for whale sharks)
Where to stay: Casa Las Tortugas – a chic beachfront boutique hotel.
Savai’i, Samoa

Bigger than its sister island Upolu, Savai’i is pure, untouched paradise. Think blowholes that send water soaring into the sky, lava fields that whisper ancient stories, and villages where time seems to stand still. A boat ride to Savai’i feels like stepping into another world. I found myself in awe at the Alofaaga blowholes, where the ocean explodes through lava tubes with a thunderous roar. Later, a village elder shared stories under a sky bursting with stars—there was no Wi-Fi, just pure connection.
Best time to visit: May to October (dry season)
Where to stay: Le Lagoto Resort & Spa – beachfront bungalows with incredible views.
Île aux Nattes, Madagascar

An island so small you can walk around it in an hour, yet it’s packed with dreamy beaches, swaying hammocks, and some of the bluest waters you’ll ever see. Plus, no cars—just you, your sunhat, and the ocean breeze. One morning, I kayaked around the entire island, stopping to sip fresh coconut water from a roadside stall (which was really just a friendly local with a machete). No cars, no stress—just the gentle sound of waves and the occasional greeting from a smiling fisherman.
Best time to visit: April to November
Where to stay: Les Lémuriens – eco-friendly bungalows on the beach.
Bocas del Toro, Panama

If you love colorful Caribbean towns, overwater bungalows, and island-hopping, Bocas del Toro should be on your radar. I stayed in an overwater bungalow, waking up to nothing but the sound of the waves. One of my favorite memories was taking a boat to Starfish Beach—yes, there are actual starfish scattered all over the shore! The nightlife here is super fun, too—imagine reggae music, twinkling lights, and sipping rum cocktails on a floating bar.
Best time to visit: December to April (dry season)
Where to stay: Azul Paradise – stunning overwater bungalows at an affordable price.
Koh Rong, Cambodia

If you’re craving an island escape without the crowds, Koh Rong is the answer. The beaches here are ridiculously beautiful, and at night, you can swim with glowing plankton—one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had. There’s a mix of budget-friendly beach bungalows and luxury resorts, so it works for all kinds of travelers.
Best time to visit: November to May
Where to stay: Treehouse Bungalows – unique jungle-style stays right by the beach.

Corn Islands, Nicaragua

The Corn Islands (Big Corn and Little Corn) are what I’d call the ultimate barefoot paradise. I spent most of my time on Little Corn, where there are no cars, just sandy paths and beach bars serving fresh lobster for under $10. The snorkeling is unreal, with shipwrecks and colorful reefs teeming with marine life. You can also take a diving trip to Blowing Rock, one of Nicaragua’s best dive sites. The island’s laid-back vibe makes it hard to leave.
Best time to visit: January to April
Where to stay: Yemaya Reefs – beachfront luxury with an island-chic feel.
Fernando de Noronha, Brazil

This Brazilian archipelago is exclusive and pristine—only a limited number of visitors are allowed at a time, which keeps the beaches quiet and unspoiled. I spent an afternoon at Baía do Sancho, which has been called one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and I totally get why. If you love snorkeling and diving, this place is paradise. You can spot sea turtles, rays, and even dolphins while exploring the crystal-clear waters. Hike to Mirante dos Golfinhos in the morning to see pods of dolphins leaping from the waves—it’s breathtaking.
Best time to visit: August to December
Where to stay: Pousada Maravilha – a dreamy eco-luxury resort with epic ocean views.
Tanna Island, Vanuatu

Ever wanted to stand at the edge of an erupting volcano? Tanna Island is where you can do just that. Hiking up Mount Yasur at sunset and watching lava explode into the sky was one of the most thrilling things I’ve ever done. Beyond the volcano, the island has some incredible snorkeling spots, including the famous Blue Cave, a hidden grotto that you can only enter by swimming underwater. The locals, part of the Ni-Vanuatu culture, are incredibly welcoming, and a visit to a traditional village is a must.
Best time to visit: April to October
Where to stay: White Grass Ocean Resort & Spa – a peaceful beachfront resort with great diving spots nearby.
Siargao, Philippines

Siargao is known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, but you don’t have to be a surfer to love it here. The island has incredible hidden lagoons, palm-fringed roads, and some of the best smoothie bowls I’ve ever had. Renting a motorbike and exploring the island at my own pace was one of my favorite travel experiences. Don’t miss Sugba Lagoon for kayaking and paddleboarding in the clearest turquoise water, or take a boat to Sohoton Cove for an enchanting swim through caves filled with jellyfish that don’t sting.
Best time to visit: March to October
Where to stay: Kalipay Resort – a luxury resort that blends seamlessly with Siargao’s chill vibe.
Zanzibar’s Pemba Island, Tanzania

Zanzibar’s main island is gorgeous, but Pemba is where you go to truly get away from it all. The snorkeling here is next level, with some of the most pristine coral reefs in the Indian Ocean. The island’s spice farms give you a glimpse into its rich culture—I spent an afternoon touring a clove plantation, and the scents alone were intoxicating. One evening, I took a dhow boat ride at sunset, and the sky turned the most unreal shades of pink and orange—it was one of those moments where time just stood still.
Best time to visit: June to October
Where to stay: Fundu Lagoon – a secluded, eco-friendly retreat with overwater bungalows.
